Westwood EMS Donation

- 1/2/2025

VFW Post 845 is committed to not only taking care of veterans and their families but also supporting Americanism in our local community.  As a result, VFW Post 845 eagerly donated $15,000 to purchase Sapphire Portable IV infusion Pumps to the Westwood EMS ambulance fleet.

In recent years, many local hospitals closed.  As a result, Westwood’s region expanded to 16 townships covering much of Chester County.  The lengthy transport time poses a medical risk to patients as they must wait longer to receive necessary medicine at a hospital.  Additionally, the sheer volume of EMS calls has tripled in just the past three years to nearly 8000 calls in 2024!

Westwood EMS Chief, Joe Kennedy, provided a demonstration of the new ambulance IV pump to members of Post 845.  "These new devices allow us to deliver critical medicine both safer and faster.  Additionally, these devices allow us to deliver a much wider selection of medicine as standard ambulance IV pumps are very limited.  Due to Westwood's longer transport times, it is critical to patients  that we administer a wider array medicines in the ambulance,” Chief Kennedy said.

Westwood EMS administrator, John Sly insisted "Simply put, these devices are saving lives.  Westwood is the first EMS in the region outfitted with these pumps.  Our local residents are receiving more critical care faster than ever.  Westwood EMS and the residents of Chester County thank you for your kind generosity!”
