BRANDYWINE HOME ASSOCIATION

The Brandywine Home Association Veterans of Foreign Wars (refered to as the BHA) is a separate corporation but is related to VFW Post 845 in that the officers of the Post constitute the Board of Directors and control all activities of the BHA.

The BHA operates and maintains the "Canteen" which includes the bar, kitchen, dining room tables, pool tables, and small games of chance. In essence, the BHA is the food and beverage and entertainment part of our organization. It is primarily the proceeds of the BHA that pays the bills and enables the Association to donate money to multiple worthy causes.

Social membership

Membership in the BHA is open to the general public.  While veterans of VFW Post 845 automatically become members of the BHA, the majority of members are not foreign war veterans. Any person of good character may apply to become a social member of the BHA and enjoy all the benefits of membership.

To become a social member, one simply completes an application form and submits it with the first year's annual dues plus a $10 initiation fee for $40. After the BHA officers review and approve an application, within 60 days he or she will receive a key card that will grant access to the building during normal business hours, and a membership card to show when purchasing food and beverages.

Annual dues are $30. A $5 discount is offered to Social Members who renew their memberships before their expiration date. (See fee structure on application form.)

An application form may be obtained from a bartender at the Post or by printing it yourself from this website. You can gain access to the bar by pressing the buzzer at either the left front door or via the rear door. If you prefer to print the application yourself from this website,

The rules

Brandywine Home Association is governed by the National, State, District and Post by-laws in addition to a variety of state and county laws. The Association has a liquor license and food license and falls under the jurisdiction of the PA liquor control board as well as the Chester County Board of Health.

BHA meetings
Brandywine Home Association by-laws state that meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Post meeting hall. However, the members voted to temporarily meet only once a month on the fourth Tuesday until such time as the by-laws are amended to reflect the once-a-month meeting policy on a permanent basis.
