Memorial Day Events

Saturday, May 16

VFW Post 845 takes responsibility for replacing American flags at veteran gravesites at several cemeteries in the Downingtown areas. Social members, Scout troops, and other concerned citizens help our foreign war veterans place hundreds of flags in Chester County.

Saturday, May 23  -- Canceled due to rain forecast

The Post Honor Guard comprised of approximately a dozen members will perform memorial services at the following locations: Marinelli Park in Dowintown at 10 a.m., St. Paul’s UCC Cemetery in Exton at 11 a.m., Fairview EPC Cemetery at 11:30 a.m., Glenmoore UMC Cemeteray at noon, and All Soul’s Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

Monday, May 25

The Post will participate in the annual Downingtown Memorial Day Parade commencing at 10 a.m. with members marching or riding in the parade that starts at Beaver Creek Elementary School 601 W. Pennsylvania Ave., and winds to the Veterans' Memorial at Kerr Park. After the parade, a ceremony will be held at Kerr Park with VFW Post 845 veterans participating. The ceremony typically commences around 11 a.m.

Monday, May 25

Following the Kerr Park Ceremony, a memorial service will be held by the Post Honor Guard back at the post building at 4601 Lincoln Highway. The ceremony will take place close to noon with honors being paid to our fallen comrades and the Stars and Stripes being raised from half-staff to full-staff. 

Sunday, May24

VFW Day of Service 12 - 3 p.m.

 Pet Adoption 

VFW members will assist Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue and Kattyshack introduce furry friends to the general public who will be encouraged to adopt a dog or cat. For more information, see Day of Service flyer. 

 June 29 — Golf Tournament

VFW Post 845 annual golf tourney is set for June 29 at Applecross Country Club, Downingtown. Sign up at the post or send registration form via mail. Fees: $70 for veteran and BHA members, $140 non-members. Check-in at the course begins 8 a.m.; shotgun start 9:30; meal and raffle at post 2:30 p.m. Click here for more details.

Weekend entertainment

Our weekend entertainment will feature DJs on Friday nights from 7 to 11 and live bands on Saturday nights from 7 to 11.  The public is invited. Non-members are subject to a cover charge.
